Grateful for everything, entitled to nothing
I talk to lots of people who hate their bodies, hate where they’ve let themselves get to.
They’d do anything to change things. And that’s great. Change ultimately starts when we know things could be better and that bright future is worth the work it’ll take to get there.
But here’s something you may not have considered:
Self-confidence and happiness isn’t something “out there” that we’ll get when we look a certain way.
I have some bad news – if you struggle with self-confidence, you probably will STILL struggle with it if you looked like your favorite celebrity or got that six pack and don’t address your mindset.
Sure, you might feel a little better if you change your appearance. But that satisfaction will be fleeting.
You still won’t be happy. You’ll STILL find yourself wishing “if only I could look like that other person….” “why can’t I look like that?” “I’ll never be able to do that”.
We humans love to compare ourselves. The wealthiest men in the world still compare their own riches to each other.
It’s never enough.
Self-confidence starts in the mind. Physical improvements flow out of that. You MUST make the decision to accept yourself and be proud of where you are BEFORE you start to change.
Change fueled by comparison doesn’t stick, and usually doesn’t even happen in the first place.
This Thanksgiving, be grateful for all the good things in your life. Be grateful for how far you’ve come, and for the opportunity to better yourself. Many people don’t even have that hope.
Who do you want to be? What kind of person do you see yourself becoming? What does that person do? How does that person feel?
Start there.
