Pants getting too tight after the holidays?
Pants getting too tight after the holidays?
I used to be anti-New Year’s resolutions. I like to attack problems head-on immediately when I notice them.
I think in general this is the best approach. No need to put things off until “the perfect time,” because that perfect time doesn’t exist.
However, I’m also not going to put down ANYONE who wants to make a change, even if it’s a New Year’s resolution.
Here’s the important part: You must COMMIT to the process. Understand that this journey lasts more than a couple weeks at the beginning of the year.
To commit, we need to know WHY. Resolutions that start with “I guess I should….” are worthless and a waste of time.
Don’t waste your life doing something that isn’t really important to you.
If you’ve put on a few pounds and want to make a change, here’s how to kick-start your motivation AND understand why something is important to you in the first place:
Take that statement “I guess I should lose some weight” and break it down.
If it’s truly important, why is losing weight important to you?
You might say “so I feel better about myself.”
Great! WHY do you value feeling good about yourself?
Answer that, then keep going.
Keep following this train of thought until you’ve asked yourself WHY 4-5 times. By then, you’ll discover your actual motivation, and this will keep you going past those first few weeks of January and bring you success when you’ve failed so many times before.
